AMHERST, OH – Berea-Midpark overcame a slow start for a solid road victory 61-48 at Amherst.  The Titans are now 12-5 and ranked 8th in the state playoff pairings that came out earlier this weekend. Amherst is now 5-10 and ranked 23rd.

Berea-Midpark started off cold from the floor until they were able to get heated up in the second.  Their first basket came on a free layup after the layup for layup exchange to give Sami Torres her Senior Day points.  She has been injured for Amherst and has not played until today.

Amherst used this to run out to a 9-3 lead.  With that being the case however, their actual first field goal didn’t come until there was only 1:52 left in the quarter on a Kendal Braaten three ball from deep.

The Comets took a 12-7 lead after one and it appeared that an upset may be brewing.  Darmos led the Comets with 4 points in the quarter for Amherst.  The lead however, was fleeting as the Berea-Midpark Titans absolutely exploded in the second quarter for 27 points to take a 34-20 lead at halftime, and for all intended purposes, put the game away.

Seconds into the second quarter, down 12-7, Rylie Szojka nailed a three and the Titans were off to the races.  Moments later, Lauren Yee got a steal and took it all the way in while getting fouled.

She would sink the foul shot, and just like that, the Titans led 13-12 moments into the second quarter. About 30 seconds later, Yee did the EXACT same thing again with a steal, basket and made foul shot.  Yee took off from there and the Titans couldn’t be stopped.

Yee would finish with a game high 22 points as she caught fire.  Kendall Braaten was her usual steady self with 17 points while Grace Forgach would wind up with 10.  Kierney Murphy also had 6 for the Titans.

The Comets had their moments in the second half but could never put together a good enough run to make it a close a game.  The Comets were led by Kayla Ferancy with 14 while Kristen Kelley had 13, Natalie Pleban with 8 as Ava Darmos had 6 and Bradyn Silvasy finished with 3.
