After not visiting much over the last 13 years before her passing, Jack returns to Ohio to prepare for his mother’s funeral. He called every Sunday night at 6pm, but besides that, it becomes clear he maintained very little to any relationship with his mother over that period. She did visit, but not much as she feared her ex-husband would show up and cause havoc. Thus, Jack never visited her and it led to a serious divide.
