Garfield Heights, Ohio – In their first game back from a two-week pause, Garfield Heights defeated Benedictine, 62-46.
The first quarter ended with Benedictine leading 11-9. It was a defensive struggle on both sides.
In the second quarter, both teams started to light it up from long range.
For Garfield Heights, junior guards Tommie Benn and Tremaine Edwards connected from long range. Benedictine answered with buckets of their own.
The two teams went into the half tied at 31.
In the second half, Garfield Heights pulled away. Stephen Cornwell knocked down several shots to pad the Garfield Heights lead, and sophomore guard Dylan Bartchak knocked down a three to end the quarter.
Garfield Heights led 51-41 at the end of the quarter.
The Bulldogs made the lead stand up from there, and hung on to win.
Junior guard Stephen Cornwell had 16 points to pace the Bulldogs. Senior forward Tavian Tatum added 13.
Garfield Heights improves to 3-1. They travel to Warrensville Heights for an LEL conference matchup next Thursday.
Junior guard Tremaine Edwards and senior guard Reggie Walker each had 13 for the Bengals.
Benedictine drops to 1-3 and hosts Normandy next Wednesday evening.
