The Brunswick Blue Devils Are Peaking At The Right Time

After a devastating start to the season for the Brunswick Blue Devils that saw a 38-0 loss at home to Avon, and a depleted running back room due to injury, it would have been easy to throw in the towel.  The Blue Devils have done anything but. Big Blue has showed immense heart and talent by winning 3 of their last 4 games and looking extremely impressive doing it.

The run began in Olmsted Falls week two, I was there as the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and maintained it for a large portion of the game.  Down 21-14 in the third the Blue Devils began to respond in a big way and jump back into it.  They would score the next 14 points and stun the Bulldogs on their home field. JD Serwatka had a massive night with 111 yards and two long touchdowns.

After a rough loss to highly ranked Highland 28-23 week three, they have bounced back in a big way with two massive wins since.   A 44-0 blowout victory over Morrison Waite in which we broadcasted live, and then this past week with a convincing 38-18 win over Euclid.  A game our Darryl Epp had coverage of.

We will be back with the Blue Devils this weekend as they travel to Mentor for the big one against the highly regarded Mentor Cardinals. Our Tyrell Jackson will be there to bring you the full recap postgame.

There is no doubt that many will see the Blue Devils as the underdogs once again, but we won’t as we know just how much heart this team possess. Last year after All Conference quality quarterback Jake Scherette went down in stunning fashion, this team still battled back under Ethan Fritz to make a playoff run.

Ethan Fritz has kept up his great play through 5 games this season.  Fritz already has a whopping 920 yards passing and 10 touchdowns in the air.  More importantly than his stats are his teammates willingness to follow him into battle.  Here is what a few of them had to say about playing with Ethan,

Caid Som shared this, “Ethan has been a real supportive leader coming from someone who’s a class below him. He’s always been there to answer questions whenever I needed help and he’s always had everyone’s back through everything, good or bad, which is what makes him such a great leader and one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.”

Conin Som added this as well, “Ethan has been a good friend of mine for a while, so playing with him for most of my high school career has been so much fun, especially because of how talented he is.”

One of his top targets, JD Serwatka chimed in with this, “There’s nobody else I’d rather have at quarterback than Fritz. Him and I have worked together so much in the off-season that we have a special connection. I trust that every play, he will make a good decision. He is a great leader and friend and there’s nobody I trust more than him to lead our offense.

They also have one of the best kickers in the state, with strong legged Noah Bartczak who can make just about any kick.

The Brunswick Blue Devils, contender, or pretender?  We will all find out this weekend in Mentor, but my feeling is on the former.
