Medina Bee’s Defeat Avon Eagles 34-17 To End Regular Season Winning Streak

On a muggy Friday night it seemed like it was going to be a war of attrition, as it was standing room only at Ken Dukes Stadium in Medina where the Avon Eagles traveled to take on the Medina Battling Bees.

The game got off to a fast pace despite the heat. Avon got the ball first and wasted little time with their fast pace and drove the ball quickly down field and finished the drive off with a 4yd TD run by Sam DeTillio. It didn’t take long for the Bees to answer behind Penn St. recruit Drew Allar as he hit two deep passes the second of which was a 35 yd TD pass to JuJuan Jackson.

The defenses for both teams seemed to settle in at that point and the offenses slowed into the second quarter. With 9 minutes left second quarter JuJuan Jackson made yet another big play taking the Avon punt 76 yards off a bounce, and burning past everyone down the sideline to the house to make it 14- 7after a good extra point attempt.

With the momentum on their side the Medina’s defense stifled the Avon offense one more time and opened the door for their offense to take advantage. Drew Allar hit a wide open Michael Rodak to take the lead to 21-7. Before halftime Avon was driving but stalled out and managed to muster 3 pts behind the leg of Nathanial Vakos.

The game would remain 21-10 into the 3rd quarter where Medina would strike first and fast. Drew Allar punched a run in from 5 yds out with a superman dive into the end zone oto bring the Bee’s lead to 28- 10 after PAT. Both offenses seemed to fizzle and the defense for both team stepped up again until late in the third when the Eagles put together a strong drive that was capped off by a 2yd rumble of Gavin Ehrhardt to close the lead to 28-17 after the PAT.

The D’s for both teams would hold strong again until late into the fourth quarter when the Bees led by their captain Drew Allar drove down the field with a long drive taking time off the clock and driving the proverbial nail in the coffin. Allar would again dive into the endzone this time from 7yds out, hitting the pylon and making the score 34-17.

Point after attempt was no good as the snap was low and bobbled. Medina’s defense held the Avon offense as they were able to drive deep into Bee territory, but couldn’t capitalize. The Bees came out and ran the rest of the clock out in victory formation in what was a very entertaining and hard hitting affair.

KEE ON SPORTS+ GAME OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Drew Allar who accounted for all but 36 yards of the team’s 369 yards of offense. He finished 15-for-28 for 234 yards and 2 TD passes and carried the ball 16 times for 99 yards and 2 more scores.

Honorable mention as said on the post game show, Jajuan Jackson who had 2 TDs on the night. He scored on a 35 yard TD reception and the other on a 76 yard punt return.
