It was not a good day for the Big 10 as the 2021 NCAA Tournament went into full force with 16 big games today. The Big 10 suffered two massive upsets with the stunning eliminations of Ohio State at the hands of Oral Roberts and Purdue being defeated by North Texas. Both games went into overtime.
Ohio State came in as a two seed in the South. Oral Roberts, a 15 seed, showed no fear as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead,, led at halftime and then commanded overtime for the stunning win. Oral Roberts will now go on to play against Florida who beat Virginia Tech earlier in the day 75-70.
Purdue came into today a highly regarded 4 seed, they were stunned by little known North Texas as The Mean Green took them out in overtime as well by a final score of 78—69. Mean Green will now go on to play the winner of Winthrop and Villanova. That game will start shortly.
The Big 10 did manage two wins today as the number 8 seed in the south, North Carolina, fell to Wisconsin as the Badgers won 85-62. Also winning from the Big 10, was number one seeded in the Midwest, Illinois, as they handled Drexel easily, 78-49 to advance.
The Big 10 is currently 2-2, and 2-3 if you count last nights MSU loss to UCLA, with Rutgers currently playing Clemson in the Midwest. The winner of that will get Houston. Two more Big 10 teams will play tomorrow as Michigan, the number one seed in the East takes on Texas Southern. Also, in the East, the 10th seeded Maryland will take on Connecticut.
The Big 10 was regarded as the best conference in College Basketball with 8 teams in the dance. However, it is not a real good start for them thus far as they are just 2-3 with 3 games to go.
