OHSAA Makes Ruling On Winter Sports Seasons

As we wrap up the Fall Season for High School Sports this weekend, the OHSAA has ruled today that the winter sports seasons can continue as planned.

High School Football programs all over Ohio showed that things can go on without a hitch.  Now the winter programs will have to be every bit as diligent as COVID 19 has reached peak season.  They will have to follow the below rules, but it all seems very doable.

⦁ Participants, cheerleaders and pep band members do not count toward a sports venue’s allowable number of spectators.

⦁ Auxiliary gyms should be considered, if available, for athletes waiting to play or having completed play (such as junior varsity and varsity).

⦁ Consideration also should be given to sending freshman, JV and varsity teams on separate transportation to away contests.

⦁ For individual sports, reduce the number of opponents that participate. The OHSAA used an example of three maximum schools for wrestling, swimming, gymnastics and bowling meets.

⦁ Reduce or eliminate contact frequency with student-athletes from schools outside of each league or conference.

⦁ Place cheerleaders as far away from players and contest officials on the court as possible, potentially utilizing bleachers.

⦁ Cheerleaders and pep band members must wear facial coverings when not performing.
