Midview Middies
2021 record 3-7
2021 Summary – I don’t know if I have ever seen a 3-win team create more drama, excitement and draw passion from their fans like the Middies did last year. Middie Nation never gave up on this bunch and they got better week in and week out. Most teams would crumble after losing their senior leading quarterback Ethan Surdock week one against Rocky River, but this team never quit.
Backup Marc Reed came in at QB, and had a great season. At times, it was like watching an episode of Friday Night Lights with Reed staring as Matt Saracen. He had unbailable talent around him with Mason Kucera, Bryce Newton and Connor Award to help keep the Middies in the playoff picture later into the season.
2022 look ahead – With Marc Reed and Mason Kucera both returning on offense, the Middies will have veteran leadership at key positions. Kucera has the kind of potential to finish in the top five of Lorain County rushers, if not right at the top. He is a do it all guy out of that backfield that will be a giant help for Reed.
Head coach Luke Beal has this to share about Reed, “Marc was 147 of 239 passing for 1866 yards. He had 13 passing TDs and 7 interceptions. Marc also had 276 yards rushing and 5 rushing TDs. Marc took over as our starting QB early in week one when our starting QB was injured. Marc had received limited snaps prior to week one, but he stepped into the starting role with confidence and did a great job running our offense.”
He also shared this about Kucera, “Mason had 66 rushes for 332 yards for a 5 yard average and 5 rushing TDs. He also had 29 receptions for 294 yards and 3 receiving TDs. As a punt returner, Mason averaged 25.6 yards per punt return with 1 TD. On kickoffs, he averaged 35 yards per return.
He also filled in as our placekicker in a critical game versus Avon Lake – he was three for three on PATs and he kicked a 23 yard field goal which proved to be the difference maker in the win.
Mason also never came off the field – he played every snap on defense. Not to mention, he is a two sport athlete in the fall – he is also a starter on Midview’s soccer team.”
The defensive will feature returning starters with Mason Kucera, Josh Matesic, RJ Lambert, Alex Swirynski and Jeremy Mathes.
Coach Beal has this to share “Josh was dominant on the defensive line for us as a junior. He finished 2021 with 18 solo tackles, and 47 assists for 65 total. He also had 6 tackles for a loss, 1 caused fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. Our defense was solid against the run for most of the season and Josh was a big reason why.
Collin was injured for the middle part of the season last year. When he returned, he started right away on offense and was seeing considerable time on defense. He is a physical player with a high motor that we are expecting big contributions from as a senior.”
Coach Beal shares his goal for this season, “In 2021, the Middies were in a lot of close games with good teams, but we struggled to finish. The goal in 2022 is to find a way to finish those close games with a win.”
Dude if you are hoping for DVDs to return you are out of date. DVDs are a thing of the past. Look at your walmart how the DVD section is nowhere the size it was in the mid 2000s
They can just replace DVDs with Blu-Ray and 4k HD
The only part I disagree with you on is Avon Lake
As long as Kostelnik is coach Shormen will be a average team at best.
Avon Lake last 3 years went 8-2,8-2, and 7-4 (despite losing Q, RB and WR at times)….that’s not “average”
