Avon Eagles
2021 record 12-3
Playoffs – Wins over St. Francis de Sales, Fremont Ross, Olmsted Falls, Toledo Central Catholic, and then a loss in the state final four to Hoban.
2021 Summary – Call me crazy, but that was one of the best Eagles teams I have seen. I don’t care that they lost to their rival and I don’t care that they lost to Drew Allar and Medina, I’ll say it again, that was one of the best Eagles teams I’ve ever seen.
They put together 10 straight victories and looked untouchable at times. If you were at the Hoban game, you saw just how close that was as they nearly won that game too. They beat a very good Olmsted Falls team twice, as well as handed blowout losses to Brunswick, Berea-Midpark and Glenville.
2022 – Sam DeTillio and Jakorion Caffey make for one of the best QB RB combo’s in the state. Caffey may be the best back in all of Division II, and he is only going to be a junior. DeTillio in my humble opinion is the best quarterback the Eagles have had since Jake Sopko. And that is no knock on Niko Pappas who was incredible in his own right!
The nest will be rocking this season as Avon hosts Medina, Glenville, Elyria, North Ridgeville, Berea-Midpark and Amherst Steele. If one thing covering high school football has taught me, it is that you never bet against head coach Mike Elder. Well, I mean, you shouldn’t be betting on High School Football to begin with, that’s a little shady in its own right.
The bottom line, when you look at the rich history, the coaching, and how hard this team plays every game, a state title is not out of the question this year. Just take a look at the incredible amount of starters coming back on one of the most loaded offenses the SWC has ever seen.
QB Sam DeTillio
RB Jakorion Caffery
WR’s Drew Lindsey, Ethan Holbrook and Braden Fitchko,
Tackles Dylan Hergenroeder and Luke Hamilton
TE Austin Mitchell
The defense has these Eagles coming back with Tommy Ptacek ready to soar as well
DE Admin Abdul
DT Austin Mitchell
LB Gavin Erhardt
Safeties Cam Santee and Matthew Fischer
It won’t be easy as they travel to Florida week one, and host Medina week two, but that is how they like it!
Coach Elder told us he has one goal for the season, “Win the last game we play in”
Dude if you are hoping for DVDs to return you are out of date. DVDs are a thing of the past. Look at your walmart how the DVD section is nowhere the size it was in the mid 2000s
They can just replace DVDs with Blu-Ray and 4k HD
The only part I disagree with you on is Avon Lake
As long as Kostelnik is coach Shormen will be a average team at best.
Avon Lake last 3 years went 8-2,8-2, and 7-4 (despite losing Q, RB and WR at times)….that’s not “average”
