2022-2023 High School Sports Awards

Best Area Girls Basketball Players who have a chance at Ms. Ohio Basketball Next Year

Saniyah Hall of Laurel

Reason – As a freshman, she dominated and almost won Player of the Year.  The prospect of her sophomore year already has people talking “female version of LeBron James”.  Hall is the most gifted athlete I have ever covered since I began covering High School Athletes in 2015.  If she keeps positive influences in her life, listens to the coaches only, and doesn’t depart from Laurel, she will go far.

She finished this season with 20.0 PPG, 9.1 rebounds, 4.2 steals, 2.6 assists, 1.6 blocks and a 53% shooting percentage. She is the real deal!

Sophia Wilson and Julia Hall of Magnificat

Reason – These two are dominant on the court together, and still very young.  Give them time to grow and they can be Co-MVP’S next season.

Ava Patti of Rocky River

Reason – She led the Pirates to a great season and final four in the District.  She is the next level talent that keeps the Pirates at the top of the GLC.

Grace Kingery of North Ridgeville

Reason – Has already broken every major record in North Ridgeville Girls basketball history and the best is yet to come as a Senior.  She has an incredible work ethic and will only continue to get better. She dominated games late in the year and was instrumental in their season ending win over Midview at home.  Kingery straight wills her team to victory some nights.

Olivia DiFranco of Midview

Reason – She is incredible and right up there with Paige Kohler as one of the greatest basketball players I have ever covered in High School, boy or girl!  This award is hers to lose next season as she is a crystal clear front runner for many reasons.  The battle between her and Kingery twice this season, gave everyone a front view on how special next season will be for both of them.

DiFranco is next level talented and can do it all. Score, play defense, rebound, assist and flat-out lead.  She is the real deal total package! Being in the media, we get in for free, but I’ll admit, Olivia is the kind of talent I’d pay to watch.

Marisa Summerfield of Avon Lake

A three-year starter, Summerfield found her mojo once again this year to lead the Avon Lake Shoregals to a tremendous bounce back season.  When Summerfield is playing with full confidence, there is nothing she cannot do!  A great passer and scorer, as her defense continues to improve, she can lead the Shoregals to an SWC Crown next season.

Kristen Kelley of Amherst

She overcame an early ankle injury to have one of the best seasons of her high school career.  Kelley can score at will, and her with Kayla Ferancy will make up the best one two punch in the conference next season. If she can stay out of foul trouble which isn’t easy considering her ultra-physical style of play, she will be dominant once again!

Kayla Ferancy of Amherst

Since her freshman year, she has grown as a player and each year, and become of the top threats in the SWC.  She can pass as well as she can shoot, and her combined with Kelley may be one of the best one two punches we have ever seen.

Grace Mangan of Avon

When it comes to scoring, Mangan and the Eagles knew how to do it this year! Mangan was lights out from long range, and when her Bengu and Laub got cooking all at the same time from long range, there was no stopping them!  Mangan plays for one of the best coaches in the state and is poised to have a gigantic senior season.

Danielle Cameron of Olmsted Falls

She was one of the SWC leaders in almost every offensive category this season.  Next year without Kalich and Kohler, Cameron may put up 30 a game, even in coach Jordan Eaton’s system where everyone scores every night.  Cameron is just that good!
