2021 SWC Girls Basketball Year End Awards

ONE SPECIAL NOTE BEFORE WE START

You’re about to read pages upon pages of awards being handed out.  But before you do, I wanted to make mention of one very special young lady.  Her name is Allison Milligan and she played for Olmsted Falls this season. She started on the team, and was a huge contributor.

While you read, you will see individual award after individual award handed out, but there is no “category” for what a player like Allison Milligan did this year.  She was everywhere on that court and made plays happen.

She may have not gotten credit for a steal, but she was the player who covered someone else so tight, it helped the player guarding the dribbler get the steal.  She may have not gotten credit for the assist, but she was the one who made that first pass, that set up the next pass to the wide-open shooter.

She is the kind of teammate that allows others around her to shine.  I’ve always said that you can look at a stat book at the end of a game, and it won’t always tell you who was the most important player at times.  Allison Milligan represents that exact point.

At the time where everyone else was guarded against Laurel, and the Bulldogs needed Allison to step up and sink clutch shot after clutch shot for the win, she did exactly that!

Thus, starting this year, we will have an award called “The Millison”, my nickname for Allison. The award will go to the player of her caliber and character.  A player who does all the little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet, but helps a team achieve success.

This year’s winner is Allison Milligan.

    2. What a great way to honor your dad, Don. Who truly is a great man. I’m lucky to have the privilege to know him. I’m also privileged to know the award recipient Allison Milligan as I have had the opportunity to coach her in another sport she excels in – volleyball. Congratulations Allison.
      Thanks Vince.
