New head coach Cory Rojeck is a proven winner and will keep this team passing the ball and playing extremely good defense. He will have senior leaders coming back with Emma Hall, Gigi Redinger and Summer Salem.
Hall is a great outside threat and last year’s Cuyahoga County Kee On Sports Sixth Woman of the Year winner. If she gets inserted into the starting lineup this season, I will not be shocked as she is a lockdown defender and the best three ball threat in the conference.
I would also expect big things out of Gigi Redinger this season as well. She showed last year that she is smart with the ball and is able to keep her composure. As for Summer Salem, she has a nonstop energy she brings to the court and can also play lockdown defense when needed.
While replacing talents like Abby Carrington and Gina Adams is tough to do, I feel as though they have the talent to do it with Katie Whitesell and Abbie Gardner. These two on the court together is a basketball thing of beauty! Their chemistry and energy level while playing together is unreal. It’s something I cannot explain, they have “it”.
Last year there was only so many touches to go around because Gina and Abby C were so good, now that they’re gone, trust me when I tell you, this combo can and will step up! You can take my word for it 7 days a week and twice on Sunday, Gardner and Whitesell are about to jump on the SWC’s center stage.
Coming off the bench for the Lady Demons will be players with extensive varsity experience such as the scrappy Anna Williams and the toughness of Taylor Gregory. Not only that, but Sophomore Kaitlyn Kerr and Morgan Kress have a world of potential and will play like upper classmen when called upon to do so.
I didn’t even mention Maria Kolocouris yet. This sharpshooter may go down as one of the best outside shooters the Lady Demons program has ever seen by the time she is done. When she starts to heat up from outside, she can hit them from NBA range with a hand in her face. Watch out!
SWC Girls basketball? Yeah, I think we’ll cover that again. Good luck ladies!
There is so much talent in the ladies basketball and happy to see how much recognition was given to them! They are all superstars! Great job ladies! And great article Vince!
